12 Mar 09 -- Ronald McDonalds House of Charities together with Miss Earth Foundation are proud to announce the release of "Bakawan", the newest addition to the Bright Minds Read Program of RMHC.

The launching of the children's book was held at the McDonalds Greenbelt Branch in Makati City this afternoon, March 12, 2009 and spearheaded by Cathy Untalan, president of Miss Earth Foundation and former Miss Earth Water,Miss Reena Rae Sarmiento, Miss Philippines Eco Tourism 2006. Incidentally, the two beauties co-authored the book with Mae Astrid Tobias, a writer of childrens books, illustrations by Van Zeus Allen Bascon.

Bakawan is a pro-environment book which aims to teach children in a fun and entertaining about taking care of environment, particularly the importance of bakawan or mangroves. The story is about Tagak, Danggit, Bayawak, and Talangka who thiks it's fun to decorate their mangrove habitat with items used and thrown by humans, only to relaize that these would only put mangroves in danger.

Also present during the launching were Miss Cindy Yang, Ambassadress of Ronald McDonalds House of Charities, members of the board Melon Salazar, Bing Bachoco and Liezel Maralag. Miss Earth 2008 Karla Paula Henry, Miss Philippines beauties Kristel Lazaro, Marie Razel Eguia, Francis Diane Cervantes, Ginger Conojero and staffs from Carousel Productions.

The Bakawan Book can be accessed through the Bright Minds Read kit of RMHC together with other value-based books published by Adarna Publishing House. Through the Bright Minds Read kit, students would be able to experience the joy of reading where learning becomes fun and exciting at the same time. (WE)

"Bakawan" Book Launch

12 Mar 09 -- "Bakawan", the book co-authored by Cathy Untalan, Reena Rae Sarmiento and Mae Astrid Tobias and illustrated by the talented Van Zeus Allen Bascon, was launched today.

Ambassadress for Ronald McDonald House of Charities (RMHC), Cindy Yang, delivered the welcome address. Showing support for the event were RMHC' board members Melon Salazar, Bing Banchoco and Liezel Maralag.

The kids from RMHC's Bahay Bulilit had an enjoyable day listening to the storytelling by Karla Paula Henry, Ms. Earth 2008, the song-and-dance number led by Reena Rae Sarmiento, Karla Henry and Cathy Untalan and the antics of Ronald McDonald.

Emcee Ms. Philippines - Air 2008 Marie Razel Eguia was supported by Ms. Philippines - Fire Ma. Kristelle Lazaro. Ginger Conejero, another Ms. Earth beauty covered the event for ABS-CBN. Another Ms. Earth beauty Francis Diane Cervantes who is now a municipal councilor of Hagonoy, Bulacan, also came and lent support to the event.(WE)
