Miss Tibet Earth 2009 is Tenzin Choezom

08 June 09 -- Tenzin Choezom won the Spice India Splendour Miss Tibet Pageant 2009 last night 07 June, which gained her the right to represent Miss Tibet Earth 2009 in the upcoming Miss Earth Finals.
Tenzin, 20, is from Dharamsala north of India where the seat of the Tibetan's government in exile 's is located. She can speak Tibetan, English and Hindi. She likes dancing, playing musical instruments and basketball.
Tearful Tenzin said that, "Being a Miss Tibet is like holding an ambassadorial post to represent Tibetan people especially Tibetan women." In a separate report she said, "It is not just a show of beauty but a stage where women with beauty and brains in our Tibetan community is empowered with an honorable title. This is the epitome of our feminine strength and our voice will be heard by many around the world."
Tenzin just finished her 12th Grade studies and intends to pursue her late father's advice of taking up journalism.
A scholarship cheque of rupees 100,000 was received by Tenzin as her prize. Ngawang Choying, the first runner-up, received rupees 50,000. Dolkar was awarded the third prize with an amount of rupees 25,000, while Yeshi Lhamo, the final contestant received a consolatry award of rupees 5,000.
A four-member jury consisting of Natasha Mendez (belly dance instructor), Neelima Kanwar (lecturer at the Himachal Pradesh University), Ram Swaroop (former President of Indo-Tibetan Friendship Association) and Thierry Dodin (Director Tibet Infonet) chose the winner.
Lobsang Wangyal, the man behind the Miss Tibet 2009 pageant was thrilled to see the hundreds of cheering crowd that filled the venue compound at the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts (TIPS). He said that the pageant is dedicated to the 50 years of Tibet on the world stage and as an expression of gratitude to the hospitality of the government and people of India for supporting Tibetan exiles.
This year, the Tibetan beauty pageant was renamed as ‘Spice India Splendour Miss Tibet Pageant 2009’ due to its sponsor, Spice India Splendour owned by the the industrialist Bhupendra Kumar Modi.
Miss Tibet 2009 Tenzin Choezom will be once again be on world stage as she joins the other delegates as Miss Tibet Earth 2009 in the Miss Earth 2009 finals to be held on 25 October 2009.(WE)
