Bringing Beauty Pageants to a Higher Level
06 May 2009 -- Puerto Rico will be participating to Miss Earth 2009 beauty pageant. The self-governing unincorporated territory of the United States located in the northeastern Caribbean has new national directors for Miss Earth. Royal Beauty Organization has acquired the license for Miss Puerto Rico Earth and envisions of bringing the national finals to a higher level. The organization is a tandem of 2 renowned Latin American fashion designers under the tutelage of Adams Hernández of Brazil and José Alfredo Cartagena of Puerto Rico.
The Commonwealth of Puerto Rico has been absent in the Miss Earth beauty pageant for two consecutive years. This Caribbean archipelago was last represented in Miss Earth 2006 by Camille Colazzo. The last time Puerto Rico entered the Miss Earth top 16 was in 2005 when Vanessa De Roide finished as top 8 finalist and won the best in long gown competition in Miss Earth 2005, the fifth edition of the pageant.
On February 18, 2009, it was announced in a press conference that beauty pageants such as Miss Intercontinental Puerto Rico, USA Miss Intercontinental and Top Model of the World USA will be handled by Hernández and Cartagena, which was announced at a press conference. It was also reported that the events will be conducted for the first time in Puerto Rico. In the case of Miss Intercontinental USA, the candidates of the 50 states plus the Virgin Islands will travel to Puerto Rico for the pageant.
“We want to bring these beauty contests at the level they deserve. What we offer to these ladies, unlike other pageants, is a chance to work with leading designers and a lifetime experience, not to mention that the winners will receive fabulous prizes“said Hernandez.
The organization is presently casting for contestants. The pageant will be plausibly held in October 2009 and will be crowning three winners that will represent Puerto Rico in the Top Model of the World, Miss Intercontinental, and the prestigious Miss Earth beauty pageant.
Hernández and Cartagena were among the fashion designers who graced the “ Green Fashion Miami “ that hit the runway, which opened on the night of Fashion Week Miami (March 25th) with eco-friendly and eco-fabulous designs in conjunction with Funkshion: Fashion Week Miami. Miss Earth 2008 Karla Henry and Miss Earth Foundation Cathy Untalan were among the special guests of the green fashion show in Miami, Florida.(WE)
