The 2009 Earth Day Pollution-Free Motorcade
16 Apr 09 -- Witness a grander celebration of Earth Day on April 22, 2009 as the most beautiful environment advocates in the country, the Miss Philippines-Earth 2009 candidates, join a motorcade that campaigns for clean air. Miss Earth 2008 Karla Paula Henry, also the reigning Miss Philippines-Earth 2008, will lead the event with her court Miss Philippines-Air Razel Eguia, Miss Philippines-Water Michelle Oblea and Miss Philippines Eco-Tourism Venus Raj, and this year’s 51 candidates aboard electric jeepneys. This vehicle, also known as the eJeepney, is a breakthrough project of the Green Renewable Independent Power Producer, Inc. (GRIPP). It aims to revolutionize the way Filipinos commute around the urban as well as the rural thoroughfares. GRIPP’s partnership with Miss Philippines-Earth is expected to generate a wider and stronger campaign to promote clean air and climate change solutions.
The motorcade will start at 7:00 am and shall pass through the major avenues Roxas Boulevard, EDSA, and Shaw Boulevard in Metro Manila, before ending in the Legaspi Mini Park in Legaspi Village, Makati City. Columnist, commercial model and philantrophist Mr. Illac Diaz is among the celebrity guests who will drive one of the eJeepneys. Joining the motorcade are other kinds of electric vehicles such as electric bicycles, a dozen electric scooters, 4 electric cars, and electric tricycles.

The Grand Coronation Night of Miss Philippines-Earth 2009 is on May 10, 2009, at The Arena, San Juan City. This will be televised by ABS-CBN Channel 2.
