Iraqi Beauties to Change Nation's Image
13 Mar 09 -- One of the most controversial possible new entries for Miss Earth this year, would be Miss Iraq. Many are surprised that the country would join beauty pageants.

"We are trying hard to get involved in international pageant scene to change the negative image of the country."-Ahmed Kadret, TMM owner.
Ahmed Kadret, the owner of Talat Model Management (TMM) based in West Baghdad, said that, “Miss Iraq Pageant has been going on since 1947 so this shouldn’t come as a surprise.”
Iraqi Beauties blog indicates that beauty contests in Iraq are in existence since 1930s but on an irregular basis and can be held outside Iraq.
TMM gained Miss Iraq when Ahmed bought the company from Edith Nouri in 2005.
Ahmed said regarding TMM’s prime objective, “We are trying hard to get involved in international pageants scene to change the negative image of the country.” He added, “We are not a Taliban State as portrayed by media. There are parts that are conservative and those are the Shiite parts and Kurdish Territories.”

Current Miss Teen Iraq 2009, Yael Zeki Shlomo, 19 yrs. old. She will compete in Miss Iraq 2009.
Miss Iraq will hand over 5 titles patterned to Miss Israel Beauty Pageant. Delegates’ age is within the range of 17-23 years old. Iraq’s Maiden of Beauty for this year will be sent to Miss Earth instead of Miss Universe.
There are 20 contenders for the pageant. Ahmed boasts of an amazing group. He is confident that TMM will produce winners and for the country to grab their representative's respective pageant crowns.
Miss Iraq 2009 will be held on 17 March in Nineveh, Iraq. According to Ahmed, the photos of the delegates will be posted soon on Iraqi Beauties blog; they are still working on their official website.
Miss Earth is a pageant arena where nations are given the chance to make a statement just like Beauty for a Cause 2003 winner, Miss Afghanistan, Vida Samadzai on Miss Earth 2003. After all, we share one Earth. (WE)
