Everybody is Turning Green
07 Mar. 09 -- On 25th March 2009, Miami, Florida will kick off its Fashion Week, recognized as "Funkshion", with the first "Green Fashion Miami" show. Miami, as a fashion capital, boasts of a distinct style of being very colorful and “wild out there”. Funkshion is also involved in philanthropic efforts. Last year, they help bring awareness to cardiovascular disease through a fashion show “Red Dress.”
As observed, some of the close coordinators of the Green Fashion Miami are also national organizers of Miss Earth. The close beauty pageant community of the Latin/American block has organized this Fashion Show. Kudos to Luis Trujillo. The show is very similar to the First Miss Earth Fashion Show which showcases collections from recycled, eco-friendly and sustainable materials.

Green Fashion Miami’s website gallery features 20 of its models coming from different pageant organizations. It feels like a coming out party for all the pageants in the spirit of camaraderie for the sake of Mother Earth.
It was reported earlier that former US VP Al Gore will be hosting the event but according to our Advisory Council’s Blog, ME Fanatics, it is Amelia Vega who will host the event. It is still yet to be confirmed whether Miss Earth 2008, Karla Henry will attend the occasion.
Five of the wonderful Miss Earth ladies will be participating in the Fashion Show namely, Alexandra Braun ME’05, Jessica Trisko ME’07, Jana Murrel ME USA’09, Jamillette Gaxiola ME Cuba’09 and Sarah Fitzgerald ME Teen USA’09.

Mr. Eric Falt, UNEP Director of Communications and Public Information, and Ms. Alexandra Braun, Miss Earth 2005, hosting the Champions of the Earth 2006 gala dinner.
This is a welcome development as everybody is “turning green”. Miss Earth's environmental cause since 2001 has been reaching astronomical proportions. Other major pageants are participating in environmental causes even in planting trees (1)(2). Even crowns are turning green! This is a far cry from "modernization" which would turn the planet into an industrial jungle.
Whoever conceived Miss Earth as a catalyst for environmental cause is a genius. Miss Earth is “green”, sustainable and glamorous.
Viva Miss Earth! (WE)
