Miss Earth Philippines 2009 Delegates in Tigil Buga (Stop Emission) Event
15 Apr 09 -- To help raise the awareness on the effects of greenhouse gasses to climate change, a "Tigil Buga" (Stop Emission) event was organized by the city government of Makati.
For one minute at exactly 8 am, motorists along Ayala Avenue and Paseo de Roxas will be requested to turn off their car engines. This will mark the start of the three-day of Makati's observance of Earth Month 2009.

Environmental activists, government agencies and Makati-based companies join this activity to highlight the need for community action for the environment.

Earlier at 7:45am, a motorcade along Ayala Avenue was held by the city officials, guests, officials & delegates from the city's partner organizations. They were joined by the Miss Earth Philippines 2009 delegates. At the strike of 8 o'clock, a long whistle was blown to signal the start of the activity. The drivers of the motorcade stopped their engines and its passengers alighted to encourage other motorists to shut off their motor engines for a minute to contribute to the worldwide campaign against global warming.

After the event, City Mayor Mayor Jejomar C. Binay lead the opening ceremonies of a day-long environmental program at the Glorietta 5. Key personalities delivered environmental messages including a story-telling session by Miss Earth Foundation Executive Director, Cathy Untalan and presentations by the Miss Earth Philippines delegates.(WE)
