Tanzanian Miriam Odemba will Soon Seal a Lucrative Contract
12 Nov 08 -- MISS Earth 2008 first runner-up, Tanzanian Miriam Odemba, will soon seal a lucrative contract with the global event’s organisers.
Compass Communication Company director Maria Sarungi told THISDAY by phone from the Philippines yesterday that the beauty queen would sign the contract anytime from now.

’’Miriam and newly crowned Miss Earth 2008 Karla Paula will remain behind when others return to their homes for talks with the organisers of Miss Earth pageant. They want to sponsor them,’’ she said.
On Sunday night, Odemba made Tanzanians proud when she finished first runner-up in this year’s Miss Earth beauty contest in Manila, Philippines and was crowned Miss Earth Air.
Sarungi said contestants who made it into the top five will also be considered for an opportunity to further polish their careers under the auspices of the sponsors.
They include Miss Mexico Abigail Elizalde (second runner-up), Miss Brazil Tatiane Alves (third runner-up), Miss Colombia Mariana Rodriguez and Miss Spain Adriana Reveron.
Miriam will thus return home on November 24, Sarungi said from Philippines’ Angeles City Airport, moments before her departure.
Maria, whose company named Odemba as the country’s envoy to the global pageant, is expected home later this week to prepare a tumultuous homecoming for the new Miss Earth Air.
’’If all goes well, she will be accorded a rousing welcome in Dar es Salaam on her arrival,’’ said Maria.
On her part, Odemba, one of the best models to have come out of the the country, said her victory is for all Tanzanians.
’’I thank God and all Tanzanians who supported me,’’ she said soon after the crowning ceremony.
Miss Earth is described as one of the three largest beauty pageants in the world in terms of the number of nationsl-level competitions to participate in the world finals.
Odemba started modelling at an early age and emerged into the limelight in 1997 when she won the Miss Temeke title.
The following year she took part in the Miss East Africa beauty pageant and finished second.
