LIBERVILLE, GABON. Marlyne Lea Ayenne, who was crowned Miss Gabon 2009 in December 2008, becomes the first reigning Miss Gabon to represent her country to the international Miss Earth 2009 beauty pageant. This information was confirmed by Maria Bayu of Beauties of Africa Inc., the sponsor responsible of sending the winner of Miss Gabon 2009 to the Miss Earth beauty pageant. The second runner-up of Miss Gabon 2009 contest, Cynthia Mboumba was earlier reported to represent Gabon to Miss Earth 2009; she will now represent Gabon in the Miss International 2009 contest. Marlyne's country is known for some of the world's most outstanding masks and statues, particularly those produced by the Fang people in the northern part of Gabon. This stunning beauty stands 5 feet and 9 inches tall (175cm). She is currently a student. She describes her country as the Costa Rica of Africa in recognition of the large percentage of land recently designated to 13 new national parks and the extraordinary variety of wildlife on offer. She is blissful to have been born to a nation where animals are abundant, being the least densely populated country in the African continent. She is proud that 85 percent of her country is a covered tropical forest. This, along with savannahs, mangroves, lagoons and beaches makes it an ideal habitat for varied species of animals and reptiles including 20,000 western lowland gorillas and 60,000 forest elephants – the largest population in Africa – and 700 types of exotic birds. "Our beaches are the only place on earth where you can find hippos swimming in the surf. The coast in my country is an important breeding ground for humpbacks migrating from the Antarctic," she narrates. She admires the late Gabon President Omar Bongo, who set aside 11 percent of the country to create the national park network in 2002, cancelling 800,000 hectares of logging concessions. Marlyne, 22 years old, competed in the 2009 International Beauty and Model Festival on May 3, 2009 in China and won third runner-up. There were 42 beauty queens/models from various countries who participated in the event. She used the spectacle as a training ground for the forthcoming Miss Earth 2009.
