COUNTRY RANKING:12 NATIONAL ORGANIZER:Miss Earth Mexico Can you describe yourself, your background and the place where you are from? As a woman, and as a trained lawyer, I consider it a great challenge to avail of my knowledge of law and to apply my profession in working for the preservation and sustainability of our environment. There’s so much to be done in terms of will by the political leadership of any country to enforce the law for the preservation of the environment. I am very eager and enthusiastic to act as the spokesperson of my country to create wide-ranging impact on the awareness and importance of the natural environment to achieve a high quality of life. We need to achieve ecological balance in the use of limited natural resources. I am willing to work with the authorities in my country to create this awareness and to instill national discipline among all peoples in my native Mexico. What are your preparations for the upcoming Miss Earth? For the upcoming Ms Earth competition, I am making full preparation to be fit, physically, emotionally, intellectually. I have reviewed my notes and learning new aspects everyday particularly as it applies to legislation on the preservation and conservation of the natural environment and compare these policy guidelines between countries. I am reviewing on policies and practices that serve to protect ecological balance, this is where my academic qualification as a lawyer will fit in. In your daily life, how are you able to practice environmental awareness? Environmental care begins at home. It is essentially the responsibility of every parent to educate their young and instill within their children the discipline of caring for the environment. It is so sad that this learning process has been remiss in many homes. For my part, I have devoted time, effort and personal resources to create an atmosphere where awareness of the younger generation on the benefits from the bounties of the natural ecological balance is the forefront of my advocacy. Awareness campaigns and re-educating people on ecology is top in my agenda. The planet Earth is our home, so we must look after it with our heart and preserve its bounties with due care for future generations to enjoy! As Miss Earth Mexico I’ve had the opportunity to participate along with government authorities and private organizations in various conferences that focus on the environment, in campaigns for country-wide reforestation, and communications about care of different species that are the natural wealth of the state of Mexico. Man’s utter indifference and neglect have caused this extensive damage to the natural habitat and threatened the very survival of all these species, man himself included. It is not easy to get people to act, but active participation in venues that focus on the environmental preservation is a cause that I have devoted a lot of my energies into. Technology, what's your take on this for the environment? Positive or Negative? Without a doubt, in my opinion, technology plays an important critical role and as a offshoot of man's ingenuity or greed, technology can either worsen or improve the environment. Many national governments around the world have funded huge mega projects where technology is the main provider. For example, energy-based projects that tap the resources from the environment are on line such as wind and solar energy where the use of this technology will reduce the dependence of industries for fossil fuels. As we all know, being the engine of growth, the use of fossil fuels have negative effects on the environment hence the need for alternative sources of energy that only advances in technology will make this happen. Due to the recent calamities resulting from greenhouse effect, man-made disasters have surmised all over the world and have resulted to innumerable loss in life and property. This itself could be prevented if we are able to identify alternative sources for clean energy utilization in all industrial societies. How important is winning the Miss Earth crown to you? Why? It will be a great achievement and would be unforgettable experience of a lifetime. If I’d be lucky to win Ms Earth 2009, I would have a formidable platform for which I can tell the whole world about the programs and practices that I wish to introduce to better the balance of our environment. The crown shall serve as my vehicle to work with various national effort, international involvement and get to seek the assistance of well-meaning individuals and organizations the world over to draw them to my cause. I want to be the spokesperson if I will be given that singular opportunity to wear the crown of Ms Earth. Do you think that Miss Earth has achieved its goal of spreading environmental awareness? Explain. I believe Ms Earth is more than just a gathering of the world’s most beautiful women in the stage of beauty contest. It is an international cause more than cultural exchange that serves as venue for closer to a group of 100 girls representing countries that has made the call toward the preservation of Mother Earth as their advocacy. The preservation of our planet is not an easy task; its is for everyone to work selflessly and with closer to a hundred girls bridging that gap, Ms Earth represents one single voice that will resonate to millions of viewers around the world. The message is clear: Let us all join hands to work the effort together at sustaining our environment for all future generations to enjoy! There are sectors that say, global climate change is a hoax. What is your opinion on this? Unfortunately it is the view of some. However, looking at the recent calamities that have transpired around the world, most of these disasters are due to man’s indifference toward nature. Because man has violated so many natural laws and the resulting consequences have proven irreversible. We should try, and it is our solemn duty to take care of our environment because it is the only legacy that we can leave to the generation that will come after us which is why governments and people should take immediate initiatives followed by measures, allowing us to reverse the disastrous consequences that climate change had wrought havoc to the environment. Any message to Woman of the Earth? We can only have one home and that is planet earth. It is in now our hands to grab the opportunity to take good care of our environment. Reversing the ill-effects of environmental degradation is by no means an easy task to achieve. I am convinced that Ms Earth 2009 will serve as one big voice that will rise around the world this year to seek solutions to the big problem on climate change. We want to be regarded as the voice that sounds the call as we have a commonality with dreams, goals, aspirations with a major focus on the care and respect for our Mother Earth. Let us stand all united for the sake of everything beautiful Mother Earth has to offer and we want to take this opportunity to be heard for global awareness and that long-awaited change from within us.
