MISS EARTH Scotland Sarah Finlay can't wait to get to the Miss Earth World Finals in the Philippines in November.

The geography graduate from Cumbernauld was crowned at the UK finals in Royal Leamington Spa last weekend.

She said: "The finals were amazing.

"We had an interview on the Friday night where we had to talk about the environmental work we had been doing and then there was a beauty pageant the next day.

"I did get a good vibe after the interview but I had butterflies in my stomach all the next day.

"Then I almost fell off the stage at one point when I was wearing the eco-outfit I had made but thankfully the organisers told me that it wouldn't matter.

"It was just unbelievable to hear my name read out."

Before the finals Sarah was due to start job hunting but she is now having a rethink about her future.

MISS Earth Scotland Sarah Finlay joined Glasgow City Council leader Steven Purcell for a spin round George Square to promote Scotland's largest climate change rally.

The pair want Scots to send a clear message to world leaders by joining The Wave event in Glasgow ahead of a crucial UN climate summit in Copenhagen in December.
