COUNTRY RANKING:10 NATIONAL ORGANIZER:Miss Yu Can you describe yourself, your background and the place where you are from? I come from Serbia, from the town of Cuprija, which is a small and neat town. I have to say that it has the status of “Green Town’’ because of its basic geography, the environment and lush greenery all around. I am very sensitive, emotional but sensible person which means that my family, my friends are always first when it comes to my view. Since I have known my friends from the earliest childhood I am able to say that I am very satisfied, healthy and happy person. What are your preparations for the upcoming Miss Earth? My preparations cover of a wide range that includes physical, mental and emotional well-being. As far as I am concerned physical appearance is not equally important as being involved with working for the betterment of the environment, which means that I am actively engaged in finding solutions to issues that I consider to be serious problems in the world today. In your daily life, how are you able to practice environmental awareness? I am certainly aware of environmental degradation and the damage it has caused to Mother Earth. You have to be able to raise your level awareness and try to teach other people how to be aware of the existing global environmental problems. We should all try to cope with the issues and do something to preserve a healthy environment for all. Technology, what's your take on this for the environment? Positive or Negative? Pollution of the environment is one of the most serious problems of the modern world which endangers life on our planet. There are different types of pollutions such as air pollution, water pollution, soil pollution as well as some other forms of pollution and it is really difficult to say which one is the most dangerous type because everything is somehow interconnected. Man and his unregulated activities have contributed a lot to the rising level of pollution and it is a price to be paid in coping with industrial development. The main and the most dangerous source of pollution is industrial development especially chemical industry and the oil refineries. A large amount of pollution is also caused by waste thrown away by people. There is also indoor pollution caused by smoking and the inordinate use of chemicals in many households. To sum up, it is very difficult to fight the pollution, but I think that it is possible to reduce it. How important is winning the Miss Earth crown to you? Why? Honestly, I think it would be a dream come true, but that for me wouldn’t be the main purpose of winning since my goal is to increase the level of being aware about environmental damage. Do you think that Miss Earth has achieved its goal of spreading environmental awareness? Explain. I think the reigning Ms Earth did her best to complete her mission and I can only say that she influenced my thinking about environmental issues and I believe that with joint efforts we could somehow manage to deal with these problems up-front. There are sectors that say, global climate change is a hoax. What is your opinion on this? As far as I am concerned, global warming is not a trick. First of all global warming is an average increase in the temperature of the atmosphere which can contribute to changes in global climate patterns. Global warming can occur from a variety of reasons, caused by nature or by human factor. In common usage global warming often refers to the warming that can occur as a result of increased emissions of greenhouse gases from human activities. Green-house effect acts like a blanket surrounding the Earth warming the planet and increasing the global temperature. Climate change affects people, plants and animals. Scientists have observed that some changes are already occurring. Observed effects include a rise in sea level, shrinking glaciers, changes in the range and distribution of plants and animals, trees blooming earlier, lengthening of growing seasons. Human health can be affected directly and indirectly by climate change in part through extreme periods of heat and cold. We should bear in mind that green-house emissions can be minimized through simple measures like changing light bulbs in your home. Governments must introduce special measures and regulations and fines in order to prevent environmental pollution. There are some simple steps one should take in order to lessen green-house effect, therefore the whole of mankind should be united in order to make progress. We should try to make our life better. Any message to Woman of the Earth? As I said in my replies, we should all be engaged in solving environmental problems by following simple measures, for the beginning not to throw waste wherever we can. Profile Photos
