COUNTRY RANKING:>15 NATIONAL ORGANIZER:Miss Earth Singapore Can you describe yourself, your background and the place where you are from? Because Singapore is a multi-racial and multi-cultural society, I’ve come to develop an open mind taking to the various cultures and customs of the different races locally. Flexibility is also a personal strength of mine owing to the myriad of experiences one can have here in Singapore. My flexibility shows when I work with kids. It enables me to cope with unpredictable situations and turn a bad situation into a good one. I may not be an eternal optimist, as it's crucial to have an objective view of things in life, but I do believe there always is a silver lining beyond the clouds at the end of every storm. What are your preparations for the upcoming Miss Earth? Other than working on my current Miss Earth project in Singapore, which is creating awareness using social media, preparations include reading up about various other environmental issues that are plaguing the world. In your daily life, how are you able to practice environmental awareness? I practise environmental awareness first, by keeping myself up to date on the latest news. Secondly, because I work with children on a daily basis, I practise environmental awareness by educating them on the consequences of not saving the environment. Not only am I able to actively put in motion an environmental effort on my part, but at the same time, I create awareness in the younger generation that will eventually, when they grow up, be better and more effective environmental warriors. Technology, what's your take on this for the environment? Positive or Negative? When used appropriately, technology can have a positive impact for the environment. The reach by technology has no limits and thus can have a widespread effect all across the world. Because we want to instil a greater sense of ownership and awareness for a sustainable environment in the younger generation, we should harness this growing avenue to develop and sustain that awareness as the younger generation and the generation that will follow them will rely heavily on the various forms of technology for dissemination useful information. How important is winning the Miss Earth crown to you? Why? Role models are very important and we all need someone to emulate and look up to. Winning the Miss Earth crown is pivotal to my cause of championing for a better tomorrow for our children. I want our future generations to be able to enjoy the beauty of Mother Earth because they need a beautiful and safe environment to develop their full potential. Thus, winning would put me in a better position to be a role model to everyone everywhere to protect our home planet for many generations to come. Any message to Woman of the Earth? There is strength in numbers and every action has a consequence. We should therefore, put a concerted effort into making every single action of ours achieve consequential meaningful impact. Because as the saying goes: together we stand, divided we fall.
