Miss Earth 2007 - Farewell
09 Nov 08 -- My year as Miss Earth 2007 has been an amazing journey full of challenges and successes. This journey began when I was crowned as Miss Earth Canada in September 2007. I was blessed with the opportunity to travel here, to the Philippines, to represent Canada and honoured with the titles of Miss Earth 2007 and Princessa ng Kalikasan. My journey as Miss Earth has taken me from Canada to Vietnam, Indonesia, the United States (Thank you Evan!), Singapore and China. But, most of all, it has brought me back here, to the Philippines.
I hope my successor will use the title of Miss Earth to support the many environmental projects underway in every community, in every nation. I hope she will raise the profile of the Miss Earth Foundation through her good deeds. But most of all, I hope she will be as strong an advocate for women and for the environment as I have tried to be.
There are many people to thank for making this journey a truly memorable one. First, and most importantly, I would like to thank the organizers of Miss Earth, Mr. Monzon and Miss Shuck, and Miss Cathy Untalan of the Miss Earth Foundation, for being my guides on this journey, through thick and thin, good and bad. They have given the world a beautiful and powerful message in their “Beauties for a Cause” and I hope this message will be an enduring one. I would also like to extend sincere thanks to those who helped me along the way. These people include designer Carlie Wong, Jimmy Steele, Alice Panikian, and Dr. Ivo Dualan. Most of all, I would like to thank the friends and family, especially my mom, sister, Natasha Neale, and Rushi, who travelled this journey with me and who never stopped providing me with their love and encouragement.
Mahatma Ghandi said, “be the change you want to see in this world.” I believe that young people can, and will, change this planet for the better. Great changes begin with simple acts and I ask you all to begin today.
